Georgia Aquarium Welcomes New Shark Pups

Wednesday December 31, 2008

Last week, 12 tiny shark pups were born in the Ocean Voyager exhibit at the Georgia Aquarium. Averaging only 8.3 inches, it is hard to imagine these tiny pups will grow to be adult wobbegong sharks, bottom-dwellers that can be up to 10.5 feet long!

The pups are currently under observation in the Education Loop Aqua Lab and can only be viewed during the Behind the Scenes aquarium tour.

The spotted wobbegongs are among the third species of shark pups born at the Aquarium. Previous births include zebra sharks and bonnethead sharks.
