Need to put it back in Piedmont Park. Period.

April 21, 2009 at 2:35 pm
(2) Kristel :

Everything else is moving back to the park. Why not this? It’s just not the same!

April 23, 2009 at 2:15 am
(3) Piedmont Park :

Piedmont or bust!

April 23, 2009 at 8:12 am
(4) John :

Again ! What a mistake ! Bring it back to Piedmont Park. No white people will go downtown for a movie.

April 23, 2009 at 1:42 pm
(5) atlmichelle :

I agree. Everything else has moved back to Piedmont, why not this? And why can’t they have it in both parks? Those from way uptown aren’t going to go downtown to see a movie during the week and vice versa. Why not make everyone happy and have it in Piedmont 2 times and have it in Centennial 2 times? Or even better, have it in Piedmont on Tuesdays and Centennial on Thursdays! People need free entertainment these days darn it!!

April 23, 2009 at 2:01 pm
(6) Julien :

That is ridiculous. They can have the Dogwood Festival there but not SOTG. Nobody who lives in Midtown is going to downtown to see the movie. Way to ruin a good thing.

April 23, 2009 at 2:41 pm
(7) Laura Folio :

I totally agree, you guys! I’m sorry to have to be deliver the bad news. I would much rather go to Piedmont.

April 24, 2009 at 1:34 pm
(8) brooke :

These comments are just reflective of how some people have entitlement issues. It has been in Piedmont for years, which is a nice location. However, Centennial is just as nice as Piedmont. If Centennial is such and inconvenience for you people image what kind of an inconvenience Piedmont might have been for others.

Your real beef is with the residents surrounding Piedmont park, as usual they don’t want outsiders coming to “their” park to do anything. Same entitlement..same people…they just feel entitled to exclusivity as opposed to convenience.

April 25, 2009 at 8:12 am
(9) jillian :

piedmont park is SO where in should be. the peachtree TV people were VERY RUDE, coming up with their own “rules” about things at the park that STILL are not posted on the website. they needed to fill some really big shoes last year and failed misserably! doubt they’ll do any better this year!

April 27, 2009 at 11:55 am
(10) Darin :

Wow — judging from the distaste the other commenters have with this location, it looks like I’ll have plenty of room to stretch out while I enjoy a movie in beautiful Centennial Park this summer. Awesome.

April 27, 2009 at 5:29 pm
(11) C. Reaux :

I have enjoyed SOTG in Piedmont Park. I love all events held at Piedmont Park due to the location and environment. I do not appreciate how the residents in the Piedmont Park area don’t want patrons to parallel park nor do they want a parking deck. THEY DON’T WANT ANYONE TO PATRONIZE THE PARK!!!!! Or is it just CERTAIN PEOPLE??? Well, I went to SOTG last year in Centennial Park. It was majority African American people there and it was a smaller area for people to convene. Once again I had to parallel park and while more convenient than Piedmont (due to location), the vibe was not the same. I don’t know why this event cannot be back in Piedmont. But I guarantee that the sponsors of SOTG have received a severely reduced revenue as a result. As with most issues in our city….race plays an integral role in many decisions involving arts, culture, entertainment…EVERYTHING!!! Atlanta could be so much more. We have the potential to be a great city….comparable to the NYC, Chicago, LA. But residents…especially natives complain when it is suggested to expand MARTA or they complain about crime in Buckhead—the proof is in the pudding. Buckhead was SHUT DOWN due to the “valiant efforts” of the Buckhead Community; and MARTA will never span too far past the metro area due to fears of the “common folk” being given access to the suburbs. ALERT!!! We commoners drive now!! We no longer depend on public transportation to get around. BTW, when was the last time you saw a burglar/rapist/murderer on MARTA????
Back to the current point, once Piedmont Park residents realize that it is okay for the city as a whole (all races) to enjoy their festivities, the world will be a better place. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening soon…….Get used to Centennial….BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

April 28, 2009 at 1:44 am
(12) Sarah :

please bring it back to piedmont!!!

April 29, 2009 at 2:06 pm
(13) Neal :

Who cares where it is. Yes I liked in Piedmont cause it was closer, but downtown would be just as much fun and Marta will support. It’s free people! Enjoy life and quit complaining…just be glad it is here at all. It would be nice to try to alternate it from year to year however.

April 30, 2009 at 10:52 pm
(14) Meghan :

I have been to SOTG at both locations, and the atmosphere and comfort of Piedmont Park simply cannot be replicated at Centennial. The best part of SOTG was always spreading out (on grass–just not as much of it at Centennial) and lighting a bunch of candles and drinking a beer or wine or something. Unfortunately, none of those things will pass the security check at Centennial. Personally, if I have to have a security check to enter the free family movie event, that is not a neighborhood I want to be in.

May 1, 2009 at 2:00 pm
(15) your mother :

“No white people will go downtown for a movie.”

Really? Because from what I remember people of all creeds went to SOTG at Piedmont. But as a resident of Midtown, I favor SOTG somewhere else. Too many OTP folk coming in acting like they own the place. AND leaving their trash everywhere. Get your own park.

May 2, 2009 at 1:38 pm
(16) Missy Poo :

This is CRAP! Being a midtown resident, one on the most fabulous events that I look forward to in the Park was SOTG! Its ruined at Centennial! Cant bring wine, no room to stretch out with ALL of your in people and did Baton Bob make an appearance at Centennial? No because its lame! Everything else it going back to its proper place in the Park and SOTG should be no different! Come on!!

May 4, 2009 at 2:27 pm
(17) JoJo :

Only one major festival (the Dogwood Festival) was allowed back at Peidmont Park this year, so SOTG had no choice but to stay at Centennial Park if they wanted to have the festival. Which would you prefer? Despite the location last year’s SOTG was a huge success. Quit your gripping and be grateful they didn’t cancel the whole thing!

May 7, 2009 at 12:59 pm
(18) BB :

No booze! My only issue with Centennial is that you can’t bring beer or wine! If we are all taking Marta there…why can’t we drink! Who really wants to watch Back to the Future sober…ever!

Oh yeah, and you can’t bring your dog!

May 8, 2009 at 3:51 pm
(19) Krystal :

I loved going to SOTG at Piedmont Park. My whole company would get off work early and head down there. It was something we all looked forward to. The ambiance was the best park of it. Everyone was so relaxed and laid back while sipping on wine and not causing a disturbance. We all went ONCE last year at Centennial. Ugh, just terrible. I dont know what it was about the Centennial location but people forget how to act right when they go there. I WILL NOT be going back downtown for SOTG. I should have learned my lesson when I went for the Peach Drop then for the Fireworks, NEVER AGAIN.

PLEASE BRING IT BACK TO PIEDMONT, PLEASE!!

May 9, 2009 at 11:40 am
(20) martha mather :

Piedmont Park! Piedmont Park! Better space – bring SOTG back to Piedmont Park!

May 12, 2009 at 1:37 pm
(21) Laura :

I have loved SOG for years its always been one of my favorite things to do each year. But I will NEVER go to another SOG that is not at Piedmont Park. Going downtown is not the same and the whole food and alcohol policies stink. Part of what made SOG great was sitting in the park and brinking your own food and DRINK!

May 12, 2009 at 1:56 pm
(22) shellbell :

Needs to be in Piedmont… we are no longer in a drought so I don’t know what the issue is… sounds like Downtown propaganda to me!

May 14, 2009 at 10:15 am
(23) Ya Ya Van Ditta :

Wow! Whoever made the comment about white pple not going downtown due to blacks — your life must be very limited you racist scallywag. Please – stay your ass out in Tara! The south will never rise with that kind of mindset.

May 14, 2009 at 1:45 pm
(24) kevin :

John you are an idiot. I am white and I live downtown! Downtown is very diverse these days. Keep your racism in the burbs!

May 15, 2009 at 11:22 am
(25) Sydney :

WOW are some of these comments for real? Is John an idiot or a bigot -oops I forgot the two are synonymous!! Get over it, yes Piedmont is a better location, but it is what you make it- if you have deeper issues than where a movie is viewed (i.e. RACISM) watch Birth of a Nation on DVD in your own home in Forsyth!!

May 15, 2009 at 11:46 am
(26) OTP and proud :

Racism is alive and well, brought on by the stinkin’, money beggin’ fools that would rather sit on a street corner begging all day instead of getting off their asses and trying to find a job. Man! Even if youu have no legs, you can still use your hands! Go get a damn typewriter and learn to type, wash cars, clean windows, do something! (not be a part of the human blight this city is plagued with).

May 16, 2009 at 2:54 pm
(27) Amber M. :

I agree completely. Piedmont made this event! It is not the same at Centennial… as a matter of fact it blows.

May 18, 2009 at 1:44 pm
(28) Jill :

These are some pretty lame movies.

May 18, 2009 at 1:44 pm
(29) Jill :

These are some lame movies, no matter where they are shown.

May 19, 2009 at 4:26 pm
(30) Cory :

They need to bring back the old movies!!!
Also, Piedmont park is a must. The crowd at centennial is rude. They were throwing things at my group last year. Not because we were doing anything, but because the happened to be fertilizer peg things that were fun to throw. Nobody would have been EVER done that at Piedmont. Please move it back, and bring back the classic movies!!!

May 19, 2009 at 8:02 pm
(31) sojo :

OMG!!! This was going to be my first time going to this event and I came on this site to get the movies and dates so that my friends and I could figure out which ones we want to go to. But these comments have really turned my stomach. I am not even going to bother. I hate negativity and really hate being around it. It’s a free movie. If you don’t want to go, then don’t go. As someone stated before, this sense of entitlement that the Midtown residents have is disgusting. It’s understandable that you want the the event to happen in the same place it always has but that’s just not the case. We need to get over it. For those of you who do go, enjoy it. I think I will stay home and watch a movie with friends…maybe I will try again next year.

May 19, 2009 at 8:25 pm
(32) Laura Folio :

I hope you won’t let the attitudes of a few people discourage you from checking out the event. As with everything, people have their opinions and it is what you make of it.
I certainly posted the information hoping to help out people who want to go, but I have to allow people to comment if they want!

May 20, 2009 at 4:01 pm
(33) Kev Kev :

The biggest issue I have with screen on the green would be the movies they selected to show this year, yuck. In regards to Piedmont vs Centennial, would I rather have it at Piedmont, yes, but having it at Centennial isn’t all bad. I went last year and had a enjoyable time. Me and my friends went to CNN, got our dinner and took it to the park for dinner and a movie without any issue. And to say that something that happened to you at one place would NEVER happen at another, I mean really? This is suppose to be an event to bring the community together, to bring a city together. So maybe we can focus a little more on the positive aspects of. Which is at least they are having it this year, I am gonna enjoy it regardless of it’s location, becuase I remember Music Midtown and unfortunately that is all I have are memories of.

May 21, 2009 at 10:24 pm
(34) Ang :

This is the funniest thread I’ve read in some time! I have to ask…do people realize they have a choice in this matter?! Our great country gives us the ability to CHOOSE whether or not we do certain things. SOTG is one of those great choices. And what’s even better- the options are simple. Go or Not. Exercise your right to make a decision. Being racist is another choice. Go for it if that’s what you believe in! We all know the real reason you’re racist is because it’s the only way you can feel better about yourself. Goooo YOU!

May 22, 2009 at 1:01 am
(35) Chris :

I live in Midtown right next to Piedmont Park. I loved having SOTG right here, and want it back. However, I am still going to go to it downtown. I wish the rules on the drinks were more relaxed, but oh well. It is a free movie and the city has rules. I like the downtown atmosphere being admist the skyscrapers that Cent Park brings. If you don’t like it, stay home and use Netflix. We should be happy that they decided to continue this for another year!It is events like this that make our city enjoyable to live in regardless of location.

May 22, 2009 at 1:06 am
(36) chris :

People, Dogwood is the only festival that was allowed back. It was only allowed back because of the horrid 2008 attendance. Regardless if the drought is over or not, it is going to take several years for the park to come back to withstand being trampled on by thousands at once

May 22, 2009 at 9:40 am
(37) Jose Neto :

Centennial Olympic Park is not a place for Screen on the green, no place to park, scare neighborhood, no chance. Boycott again. Need to go back to Piedmont park

May 22, 2009 at 10:35 am
(38) Sarah :

I’m so pissed! I just moved across the street from Piedmont Park and this is one of the main things I’ve been looking forward to! Why did they move it????

May 22, 2009 at 10:38 am
(39) Sarah :

By the way Chris, Dogwood festival is NOT the only thing back in Piedmont Park this year. The finish line to the Peachtree Road Race and Atlanta Pride were both allowed back. I’m sure there are others.

May 22, 2009 at 10:38 am
(40) J Mills :

With all the comments posted, its evident that you can’t deal with the crowd that comes to SOTG at Centennial Park. Everyone knows that Centennial is a more central place for all of Atlanta to support. I’ve been and the crowd is awesome, the children are happy, and we enjoy ourselves. The people are not rude. It seems that you can’t handle the energy of too many who may not look like you.
And just maybe the blame is not on Peachtree TV and their organizers but on the committees who pick and choose what can come back to Piedmont. That’s who you should be upset with.
So keep boycotting and leave us more room to invite those who will appreciate it.

May 24, 2009 at 10:32 am
(41) Brooke :

Has anyone bothered to go to the actual Screen on the Green website. The movies are a bit different and food & alcohol can be purchased on-site. All you drunks are safe, it will feel just the same when you have a drink. Hehehe.

May 24, 2009 at 3:28 pm
(42) Angelijica :

All the posters on this site are racist.. We as African Americans do not care if you don’t want to be around us!!!! More fun for us…

May 26, 2009 at 1:19 pm
(43) Ree Ree :

I agree with Sojo… I was excited about this event… This would have been my first time going but I think I’ll pass. Netflix will have to do… Thanks guys for all of the negative comments and complaints.

May 26, 2009 at 11:31 pm
(44) SamIam :

Give me a freaking break. I’m a native from Atlanta and it’s definitely not a black and white issue. People like it in Piedmont Park because 1. We sit on grass not cement. 2. We can bring our own alcohol and don’t have to purchase it like we do at Centennial. 3. Piedmont is a lot more comfortable with large crowds. 4. Did I mention we can bring our OWN alcohol?

May 27, 2009 at 10:48 am
(45) Axo :

Please people, look up the word “racists” and learn the definition. This word is over used and used improperly. Damn the government school system.

And for all you Centennial Park haters, it really isn’t that bad. I am glad the City of Atlanta kept the park. Considering their history, they did a good job with Centennial Park. Trust me, I too love Piedmont Park as I used to live just across the street from it. But I do look forward to another month of Screen on the Green at Centennial Park. Give it a chance….that’s all I’m saying…let’s sing it together….

May 27, 2009 at 3:59 pm
(46) Tenah :

WOW, I have never been to SOTG and I am looking forward to going. Sorry for the change in location. But since I don’t drink and i am not racist I guess I will be ok. I will let you know how it goes. :)

May 27, 2009 at 6:59 pm
(47) vonda :

white people have an overwhelming sense of entitlement to everything. please understand that you do not own the world.

May 27, 2009 at 11:23 pm
(48) Markey Mark :

A. State runs it not City of Atlanta (why is it so well kept?)
B. Park has liquor license that could be yanked if outside alcohol were allowed…can’t carry a drink into a bar/club
C. Crowd last year was a beautiful mix of people – all having a great time. Some movies were more urban than others but so what.
D. Centennial is wayyy easier to get in and out of than Piedmont…unless you live on the Park.
E. Make no mistakes, Sponsors drive many of the decisions on where the event goes and they like the family friendly, racially balanced event at the Park….

May 28, 2009 at 6:44 am
(49) Whatever :

@ AXO – who used the word racist on this board? I saw some race issues were referenced, but no one called any group racist so please quit trying to stir the pot. Also, if someone did use the word racist to describe certain attitudes toward this issue, than racist/racism would be accurate (see the comment above “whites won’t go”). Check webster’s definition number 2 of the word. No charge for that.

(50) calvin :

I agree with the person who said lets have 2 movies at Piedmont and 2 at Cen.Park. What I dont understand is why are there no movies that would include more actors of color.

May 28, 2009 at 12:25 pm
(51) I'Joni :

Say it with me people, “Change is good. Change is right. Change works.” As a first-timer to SOTG, I for one am glad its at Centennial! It will be nice to grab some dinner at CNN and catch a movie at the park. Its too inconvenient to get to Piedmont Park for anyone that doesn’t already live or work in the area, especially during the week. MARTA is just across the street, so there’s no excuse that you can’t get there if one really wants to go. I can’t believe the complaints regarding the location (Centennial is more centrally located and easier for EVERYONE to get to than Piedmont), alcohol not being allowed in (its a family event you cry babies!!), and sitting on cement instead of grass (lawn chairs cost like 5 bucks nowadays). But hey, if you want to use these as excuses for not getting out and enjoying a free event, then all the better for the rest of us that will be.

May 28, 2009 at 12:45 pm
(52) Who Cares? :

If you guys (as in white people) are so self conscious that you can’t go downtown to watch a movie, stay at home. Who cares about black and white now and days? This is the year 2009 get over yourselves.

May 28, 2009 at 12:46 pm
(53) Tamika :

Sure you want it in Piedmont Park after the mysterious killing last night??

May 28, 2009 at 1:56 pm
(54) atlanta83 :

I think it’s ridiculous that you people are complaining about driving another, what? 2 miles to Centennial Park. Yeah, it’s not going to be the same atmosphere, but suck it up. Atlanta obviously did it for a reason. Saying white people aren’t going to go “downtown” sounds so freaking stupid. Downtown, Midtown, who cares. Suck it up. People that liked the IDEA behind of SOTG will go even if it is in Centennial, and the ones that just liked it because it was in Piedmont can stay at home and cry about it.

May 28, 2009 at 3:57 pm
(55) Shawneeka :

i glad it at centennial – easier for most people to get to anyway. piedmont was just a bunch of snobs anyway – drinkin wine and eatin whole foods fancy food and lookin down on peeps wid a bunch lil kids. hopefully the organizers will change the movie lineup – we want MARTIN or TYLER PERRY! who wants to see a bucnh of old movies!

May 28, 2009 at 5:01 pm
(56) Mia :

… so yeah this is my first year going, and im going BECAUSE, and not inspite of, its new location at centennial park. and much as i hate to admit it but as a i have lived in atlanta for 20 yrs, im pretty sure alot of people complaining using such little reasons as previously mentioned, that they now feel compelled to boycott the new location, are too afraid (or don’t want others to think they are racist) to sound racist, but that race is prolly a top reason they don’t like the change of location. instead of trying to justify why you want to move it back because of the lack of alcohol, or cement (Which i hear alcohol can be bought a the event, and there is grass at centennial maybe you’ll have to sit on cement, but hey at least u wont be gettin bit by bugs and coming home covered in bumps)just mention the real reasons, this is an anonymous board, and it gives an insight to the kind of ppl attending the even… i would definitely like to avoid events that are patronized by folk ‘uncomfortable’ with those of my race.

May 28, 2009 at 5:26 pm
(57) Lauren :

I want to see a bunch of old movies :) I also like to have a glass of wine and enjoy a cheese and fruit plate from Wholefoods or the Fresh Market. I like being around people with well behaved kids. I like having the grass to lay on. I don’t think it has anything to do with race, I think it has to do with class (Informal Elegance of style, taste, and manner) Parking sucks at both and either way someone is bound to be unhappy with the movie selection.

May 28, 2009 at 6:00 pm
(58) sam :

should be called “screen on the incredibly uncomfortable, my butt is numb, concrete”. lame

May 28, 2009 at 10:04 pm
(59) Markey Mark :

So I’m sitting here at the event with my free wi-fi looking at a great mixed crowd, young/old/black/white/gay/straight having a good time.

What concrete are ya’ll talking about? There are brick walkways, a fun fountain you can get in and plenty of grass to sit on. They don’t let you sit on the walkways anyways…. And by the way, I had my beer…or two, thank you very much. It is a free event guys. I really wonder if some of the complainers have ever even been to the event!

May 28, 2009 at 10:47 pm
(60) eavgirl :

It has nothing to do with race. I’ve been to SOTG and I could care less what you look like. It’s all about bringing food and drinks to the event. Some of us are low on cash and it helps to be able to stop at Trader Joes and pick up some snacks and cheap wine and watch movies with friends. Why go to the new location when you have to buy food and drinks at the location and it’s of course going to be way more expensive then bringing your own stuff. If you don’t drink then I can see why it’s not a big deal abou the location, but if you do then it matters.

May 29, 2009 at 2:27 am
(61) Rob :

I might be a drunk but the reason I would like to have it back at Piedmont is the alcohol. I wouldn’t go without it because that would be part of the fun for my friends & I. Just being honest. By the way, please don’t tell anyone but several of those friends that would be with me are black. (Even worse they are from Cobb County.)

May 29, 2009 at 2:58 pm
(62) Nia :

I think having it at Centennial is a great idea. It makes use of the park. It doesn’t have many events there. It is kind of Unfair that people want EVERYTHING at Piedmont. I live in Virgina Highlands and I think its good to have a change of parks. Also I think its totally ridiculous to say white people wont go there. The park is filled with many diverse groups. everyone comes out to have fun. I also think its totally wrong for anyone to say the comment about white people because it seems to me you think the black community wouldn’t enjoy a nice event once in a while. I think all of you wanting it at Piedmont are selfish. there are many grat events you could go to already….how about you share. evil bastards

May 31, 2009 at 7:59 am
(63) Vetta :

This is a great disappointment not only to learn but to hear also. That SOTG will be hosted at another venue other than Piedmont Park. Auug! Nevertheless, the atmosphere will never be the same by far but change sometimes is good to see what needs to be tweeked and revisted at another time and date. So, I say pack your bags troops and head over to Centennial. Besides that if your mind is off course so will be your heart… AND LET’S PUT OUR HEARTS INTO IT AND HAVE A GREAT SAFE TIME.

May 31, 2009 at 8:36 pm
(64) Richard :

WHINE! WHINE! WHINE! Jeeeez midtown people! you sound like a bunch of spoiled brats!! I just went to this event 5/28/2009 – EXCELLENT TURN OUT!!! and whoever the dummass was who said white people wouldnt come – you should’ve seen it – PLENTY OF EVERYONE – all peaceful – all having a good tiime – all watching a classic “back to the future” …

please folks get over this racist crap.. go to centenial park and look at the children playing in the water fountain.. they dont care who’s who and what color is what… if we took an example of how the children act & play we could learn something!!

just my 2 cents. See you on the green!Richard. 36yr old black guy who recently move downtown!

June 2, 2009 at 9:12 am
(65) George W. :

darn, you guys are quite a racist bunch (well at least the person talking about “white” people), LOL. Get of yer arse and go see a free movie. You MARTA and “ike and mike”, lol.

(66) Bacchus :

I think they should go back to playing the older movies. They should play the old black and white classics.

June 3, 2009 at 11:18 pm
(67) RG :

I went to see fireworks in Centennial Park over the 4th in 2007 with an 11 year old, two 9 year olds, and another father. There was a fight in front of our blanket and shots that sounded like gun fire that made the crowd stampede. The kids were almost trampled and so scared we left before the fire works started. We’ll never go to Centennial Park again after dark with children.

June 3, 2009 at 11:27 pm
(68) RG :

footnote to above comment:
and NO, we’re I’m not racist. in fact one of the children is as black as Obama

(69) rafikial :

let’s protests to bring it back to Piedmont park. I used to like it better when it was at piedmont, I guess like you just get used to. I went to centennial park last year and it was ok but still not quite the same. :(

June 4, 2009 at 9:40 am
(70) back to the ATL :

Was really looking forward to this @ Piedmont since I just moved back to the city. Will wait for next year! Hopefully whoever makes the decisions about these events will get a clue about what people really enjoy.

June 4, 2009 at 5:00 pm
(71) Toni :

Someone posted white ppl won’t go down town. That’s not true and even if they don’t so what. Why must this be a race thing. I must admit that I loved SOTG at peidmont primarily because you could bring wine.

I’ve lived Downtown, Midtown and now in East Atlanta. When SOTG started, it was one of the best things to happen to Piedmont. Me and my sister would go and chill w/ wine and food and have a grand ol’ time. Was anyone there when they showed “The Wiz!” That was awesome! Everyone was singing and having a good time. Then came the drought! Due to cost of upkeep of PPark (at least this is what is being told), the event has to be moved to Centennial. Ok, so last year we packed up, went to Centennial and enjoyed the movie. It was great and the city view is awesome on a warm night. And you can have alcoholic beverages to go with that view. However, it wasn’t the same.

I’ve lived across the street from Centennial and it is a beautiful park. However, Piedmont was more raw and gritty and ALL people were there regardless of the movie. There wasn’t this black/white thing..that is so played out because if a catastrophe were to happen with all those people at the park, the damage is not exclusive to a race or anything else. Piedmont is the place for such. BTW, the movie listing for this year is weak. I may not even go.

R.G. Let me get this right – we just had a tragic fatal stabbing at Piedmont Park, but two years ago you saw a fight and heard what you thought were shots (likely firecrackers)at the 4th of July but you won’t ever go back to Centennial at night???? They have more security than any place I have ever been – see all the comments about it regarding beer and wine. Its one of the reasons I like it and feel comfortable.

Thanks for the pertinent contribution to the screen on the green blog, and bringing up race again!

Moan and Gripe!, Moan and Gripe! Is that all you people can do? Seriously…. YES Piedmont park was a fantastic location. YES there was more space, more people, more options for bringing food drink etc, and more entertainment like Baton Bob.

So it’s not what it use to be… But is is Terrible? Is it that difficult to go 8 miles out of your way? And I can’t even believe that this came out of a few peoples comments… but does the presence of more Black people coming to simply enjoy a free movie on public grass that we ALL paid for create that much more anxiety?

While you Gripe and complain about going a few extra miles, not being able to drink your face off in public, and seeing “too many black people”. There are people fighting wars, and unable to go home. Men and woman who would give anything for a free night on green lawns amongst peaceful patrons for a good wholesome time.

GET OVER YOURSELF!!!

DEFINITELY need to move this back to Piedmont Park – or just change it to something different. “Screen on the Green” belongs at Piedmont… Cent Park was awful for this. Went last year and won’t go back. Who the heck wants to spend “ga dome” money on beverages at a movie in the park??????????? Booooooooooooooooooooo…

Ok, enuff of the race stuff or sexuality stuff…..it needs to be at Piedmont period! I miss the atmosphere and the movies were better. I really don’t want to travel to see a movie I can see on USA or get from Block Buster (and it wouldn’t be free since I would have to use gas to pass Block Buster to see a movie that regularly comes on cable) The fun was to watch campy movies that you can’t find, to enjoy the park….I just like it better at Piedmont =(

Well, I went to SOTG and it was lovely. People of all races came, it was plenty of space, plenty of alcohol (for all who thought that would be a problem) and just a nice time to hang out and meet new people in the community. People should stop complaining so much. The only reason why so many people are is because it will be more people of color down at centennial. This is so sad. It’s a movie. Change it up once in a while. Like someone said, it’s 2009! and people keep saing “I don’t want to travel for a movie”. well for some people, going to Piedmont would be traveling as well. For some people centennial is closer. But I’m pretty sure everyone knows this. Besides, the decision has been made, it will be at centennial this year. So suck it up.

Ough……..you people are so ugly ….its 2009 we have a black president and you live a predominantly black city so get over it we are going to be anywhere you go….had you people not tried to block people out of your neighborhood you would still have it there….go enjoy the event for what it is maybe if you stop complaining about things… and stop trying to exclude others you will stop takings away the things you enjoy as well…. When will this stop?

“no white people will go” – that’s hilarious.

I’m sorry to hear that there are so many different reasons for not wanting to go to the event yet, I also think it’s great that we are allowed to voice our opinion(s).

While I agree that it was awesome in Piedmont and the rule of Centennial suck – it’s still a nice venue and a good time out (for my family). We had rude people in Piedmont and have been around rude people in Centennial – we simply moved to another spot. (or ran them off!) Either way, we made the most of it and had a great time.

I hope those who go will be able to enjoy it and those who don’t, well..I’m sure they will find other things to do. (now excuse me while my group of white people and I – get ready to go!) :-)
