Each year after the turkey has been eaten and the pumpkin pie devoured, one of the most popular spots in Atlanta is outside Macy's at Lenox Mall for the Lighting of the Great Tree. The 70 foot pine weighs around 7 tons. This is one big Christmas tree.
The pre-show begins at 6:15 p.m., and it's followed by the lighting ceremony at 7:00 p.m. Each year there are great musical performances. This year the show includes country singer Josh Turner, American Idol's Mandisa, Stephen Norwood, Macy's All Star Holiday Choir, and SoReal Cru.
Marta will be running on Thursday and will be on a special events schedule to accomodate those traveling to the Macy's tree lighting, so taking the train to the Lenox stop may be your best bet. If you can't make it to Lenox, the celebration will also be shown on WSB Channel 2.
