Have Some Fun For a Good Cause

Bingo for BrooklynThe holiday season brings out the charitable side in everyone - so why not give back and have a little fun at the same time? Here are a few upcoming events that sound like tons of fun, plus have the added bonus of making you feel all warm and fuzzy.

The W Downtown is holding a fundraiser for Hurricane Sandy relief this Friday evening. Bingo For Brooklyn - A Bash for the Boroughs will be a night of bingo (I mean, how often do you get to play bingo?!) featuring Brooklyn Beer & Manhattan cocktail specials. Prizes are from Bliss Spa, BLT Steak, W Helipad, and more. Proceeds benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy through Robin Hood Foundation Relief Fund. DRINKSHOP opens at 8 p.m. with bingo starting at 9 p.m. No cover, $5 Bingo cards.

Get some holiday shopping done at Swoozies, a great little gift shop, while raising money for Bert's Big Adventure. On Tuesday, November 27, Swoozie's at Chastain Square will offer 20% off the entire store all day long, with 10% of the day's sales benefiting Bert's Big Adventure. Shoppers who stop by from 6-8 p.m. will enjoy sips, small bites, and a champagne toast with Bert's Big Adventure's Stacey Weiss at 6:30 p.m. If you aren't in the know about Bert's Big Adventure, it's a charity that takes seriously ill and/or physically challenged children on a family vacation to Disney.

One more for Hurricane Sandy! Long Island natives Ron Eyester and Keith Schroeder are hosting a Hurricane Sandy fundraiser on December 8 at High Road Craft. The theme of the evening is "I Love NY," with Big Apple inspired food, cocktails, and live music. Think classics including pastrami, chicken parm, pizza, hot dogs, along with a variety of cocktails, including a Long Island Iced Tea (duh!). Radio personality Mara Davis (also a New Yorker) will emcee the event, where all proceeds will be donated to benefit the families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Tickets are $65, which includes food and two drink tickets. Tickets can be purchased at the door as well as online.
