Recycle Your Christmas Tree in Atlanta

Christmas Tree RecyclingWell, Happy New Year, Atlanta! The 2013 holiday season is officially behind us - but you may still have that tree hanging around as a lingering memory of Christmas past. Good news, this Saturday, January 4, is Bring One For the Chipper day, the annual Christmas tree recycling event hosted by Keep Georgia Beautiful.

Just bring that tree to almost any local Home Depot on Saturday and they will be happy to recycle it for you.

Some counties also allow curbside recycling for smaller trees. Dekalb, Fulton County, and City of Atlanta residents may dispose of their Christmas tree curbside, but only if the tree is less than four feet tall. Trees should be placed at the curb according to the schedule for yard debris pick-up. All decorations and lights must be removed before disposing of the tree. Remember that this applies to those serviced by specific Public Works groups - and may not apply to those who live within the county but are serviced by an individual city (example Decatur, which is in Dekalb County).

City of Decatur is collecting trees at the Christmas Tree Recycling Center in the Agnes Scott College parking lot, Friday, Dec. 27, through Sunday, Jan. 5. The entrance to the parking lot is between 184 and 206 S. Candler St.
