Some people take their barbecue very seriously. Perusing message boards dedicated to the discussion of barbecue, which is a bit frightening in itself, I found blistering diatribes against certain Atlanta barbecue establishments, including one that is a favorite of mine. It will be interesting to see what these self-appointed BBQ experts will have to say about Rolling Bones Premium Pit BBQ, one of the newest to hit Atlanta's rapidly growing 'cue scene.

Rolling Bones is, to put it plainly, not located in the best part of town, but then it seems the best BBQ joints are located either in the inner city or in the sticks. The convenience of barbecue drive-thru service was a stroke of genius. Still, the owners have done such a great job with designing Rolling Bones, into a sparkling, shiny retro style diner, that it would be a shame not to take a peek inside and admire their vision.

But on to the pig. There menu is focused and doesn't fool around, the way any good BBQ place should be. One can choose from 5 different plates ($6.95-16.95), including a chicken, chopped pork, beef brisket, and smoked ribs(half/full) plate.

Each plate comes with bread and one side. Their sides are above average. The fries are crispy and tasty, and the mustard greens have a nice little zing to them. Other sides include cole slaw, potato salad, and pinto beans.

If you are seriously hungry, you may want a combo meal, which includes 2 sides and bread ($11.50-17.50). There are also smoked wings, which come with fries, and in quantities anywhere from 5-50 ($6.95-45.95). There are three sandwiches on the menu, the chopped prok and the BBQ Beef Brisket (both $5.25), and the rib sandwich ($6.50). Sandwiches come with one side and pickles.

On my visit, I utilized the handy drive thru service, and ordered the chopped pork plate with mustard greens and my dining companion got 1 order of smoked ribs with fries. Service was fast, from start to finish, under 5 minutes. The food was still hot when we got home, a short drive away. Regardless of the meat you request, you will be asked whether you want hot or mild sauce. I chose hot, and found that it does have a bit of a slow burn to it, but nothing too serious. There's also a hint of sweetness under the sting of the hot sauce.

Personally, I prefer Pig-n-Chik's sauce, but the quality of the meat at Rolling Bones is excellent, and it is cooked to perfection. The ribs were tender and retained that moist smokiness that makes good barbecue irresistable.

Initially I balked when I heard the total of $21 for a plate of barbecue and ribs, without beverages, but after eating, I felt like it was defnitely worth the price.

Rolling Bones does sell beer and wine, in addition to the standard assortment of drinks. They have one dessert, if you have any room left, which is cobbler ($2.95).

Rolling Bones also does catering, and their smoked meats are available in bulk as well.
