The sign that greets visitors to the Etowah Indian Mounds in Cartersville, Georgia, just about 30-45 minutes outside of Atlanta. The mounds are considered to be the most important Indian settlement in the immediate area, and are part of
the Mississippian culture, which began around 1000 A.D. The Etowah Mounds were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965.
