Smith's Olde Bar (1578 Piedmont Ave Atlanta GA 30324) is really made up of 2 venues: a friendly neighborhood bar connected to an upstairs, intimate live music room. It is tucked away in a nondescript row of shops just past Ansley Mall in Midtown. One can easily drive by without even noticing it. Parking is nil so the best bet is to park at the mall and walk on down. Whether you come for the bar atmosphere or to soak in some good music and brew, you will not be disappointed.
Smith's offers a wide selection of bar food favorites, and you can take your food into the upstairs music venue if you choose to. Nachos, wings, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and vegetarian selections are all up for grabs. If you are a beer snob, and are attending a music event upstairs, beware that the bar up there mainly has domestic beers, though you can get Heineken, Bass Ale, and Guinness.
Bar events include team trivia every Monday night. And for you Alabama alumni, Smith's is the official bar of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Smith's also has the standard pool tables and dart boards. Many nearby residents simply come for the laid back atmosphere, and reasonable prices.
For those that want to hear a wide variety of local and regional musical acts in a very personal setting, Smith's Olde Bar has your ticket. If you want to snatch one of the coveted tables in the front and center of the small room, make sure you line up EARLY. Once the doors open, expect to wait quite awhile, up to an hour, for the show to get under way. If you're content to stand or lean against the bar, you can arrive later. This is a great place to see up and coming stars in a dynamic, intimate environment. While the space lends itself to the more acoustic acts, everything from alternative rock to punk also play here on a regular basis.
If you are looking to soak up some local music in Atlanta, don't pass by Smith's Olde Bar without stopping in for a listen, and some brew.
