A downside of living in Georgia is that one cannot purchase alcohol on Sundays. Alcoholic beverages are served at restaurants, but if you are throwing a dinner party at home on a Sunday, and forgot the wine, you're out of luck. Or are you?

Who would think of wine shopping at Underground Atlanta? The shopping center located underground is normally associated with tourists or teenagers. But amidst the souvenirs is a wine tasting room, one of several that the Habersham Vineyards and Winery operate. Habersham produces a great selection of locally grown varieties. Wine lovers will be glad to know that there is a loophole in Georgia law that allows the Habersham Winery Tasting Room at Underground Atlanta to sell wine on Sundays. The wine selection is limited only to the local Georgia wines that the vineyard produces or promotes. However, with 10 different local varieties, there should be plenty to choose from. Most importantly, one can taste before they buy. For only one dollar, one can taste three different wines, a real bargain. I recently tasted the Creekstone Cabernet, Merlot, and Scarlett. I would grade all of them perfectly drinkable, though none were particularly outstanding. Prices are competitive, with most ranging from approximately $8.99-16.99. Keep in mind that wine can be purchased on Sundays after 12 pm.

The tasting room also has many local quirky food products and souvenirs for sale. It's a great place to pick up a souvenir or gift for the gourmet person on your list.

The main Habersham Winery is located near the mountain town of Helen, Georgia, which makes a lovely day trip, especially in the fall.
