Your Atlanta Guide's Reveiw of Cavalia:

First things first. If you love horses (or even if you like horses more than you suspect is normal), go see Cavalia. If you like artsy things like dance and Cirque du Soleil, go see Cavalia. Looking for a unique holiday gift? Cavalia. If you’re courting a new lady friend and you want to impress her with how sophisticated you are - you guessed it - GO SEE CAVALIA.

Ok, everyone else falls into the unsure, curious camp. You’re wondering what’s up with this crazy horse show, right? I was too. So I went. Odysseo in Atlanta was my first Cavalia show. I’ll say this: there were some highs and lows. For me, it started out a bit slow. For a moment, ducking out at intermission crossed my mind. But, luckily, it picked up quickly. I really enjoyed most of the show! While the horses are undeniably majestic, I found I’m most drawn to the out-of-this-world abilities of the human performers. There are crazy acrobatics and amazing aerial shows. When it came to the equestrian feats, I preferred the fast paced segments where the riders do tricks to the slower scenes that showcase the - admittedly awe-inspiring - training these horses have gone through.

My personal opinion aside, I could tell by the crowd’s reaction that there were many people who were rendered speechless by the horses’ performance. There are definitely acts that appeal to a variety of different people in Cavalia Odysseo. Another neat part is that the cast of the show encourages audience interaction throughout the performance.

The silent player in Cavalia? The sets. The stage is a mind-bending, multi-level, multimedia feat that is truly more impressive than any other stage show I’ve seen. They really transform the space and make it feel epic. And there’s not a bad seat in the house - though I imagine front and center is pretty spectacular. Based on the production value alone, I think the ticket price is justified.

So, should you go see Cavalia Odysseo? I think it’s worth it. It’s a unique night out. For a few hours, you escape your everyday life and you’re transported to another time and place. Even for the skeptics - I’d say give it a try.
