About the King Tut Exhibit:
National Geographic brings the mystery of Ancient Egypt and its great rulers to the Atlanta Civic Center in a journey through tombs and artifacts of Egypt. The exhibition consists of several galleries that feature statues, jewelry and gilded artifacts that entertain and educate with a glimpse in to the past. Most of the 130 objects in the current exhibition have never before been seen in the United States.
The exhibition features 50 objects from the tomb of Tutankhamun including the gold sandals that adorned the mummies feet and a beautifully adorned canopic jar that mummified his internal organs.Also on display are carefully carved statues of many Egyptian pharaohs and their rule, including representations of Egyptian gods and other figures of importance.
Weave and wander through the galleries of treasures, imagine the excitement explorers felt when uncovering ancient tombs and gaze up at a giant, awe-inspiring statue of Tutankhamun, the boy king, whos life and death are surrounded by mystery.
What You Need to Know:
- Audio tours are available and for self-guided narration through the exhibit
- Many of the rooms have low light and may be a bit difficult to navigate for older or vision-impaired guests
- There is an on-site café for quick snacks
- Even with a reserved time, you may have to wait for your group to be allowed in to the exhibit
- A typical trip to the exhibit lasts 60 90 minutes, but you may stay as long as you like
- There are no restrooms once you enter the exhibit
- No photography is allowed inside the exhibit
- Parking at the Civic Center is $5, cash only
- King Tut will be on display in Atlanta through May 2009
