Top 8 Atlanta Dance Clubs

From Joy Johnston, for About.com

Atlanta's dance clubs attract a diverse and hip crowd who seek a high energy environment and a great mix of music from talented DJs. Here is a selection of some of the most popular dance clubs in Atlanta (in no particular order).

Sutra Lounge

Sutra Lounge is located in Midtown and draws a mainly 20- and 30-something crowd of beautiful people to dance the night away. The music is mainly a rap and hip-hop mix, and the DJ's know how to keep everyone moving to the beat. The bartenders are efficient and drink prices aren't outrageous.

Verve

Verve is a multi-level nightclub, lounge and full-service restaurant located in the SoNo district of Atlanta. The outdoor terrace provides great views of the Midtown and Downtown Atlanta skyline. The second floor features a full-service restaurant and sushi bar, while the first floor features a sleek bar with private seating areas and a DJ booth.

Compound

Compound offers several different themed areas to match whatever your clubbing style may be. Located in the evolving West Midtown warehouse district, Compound debuted in 2004, breathing new life into Atlanta's club scene.

MJQ Concourse

MJQ has long been a clubbing favorite, and the crowd demographics have changed over the years, which keeps the beats and the scene fresh. Some of the best DJ's in town spin for MJQ, according to fans of this underground club.

WETbar

If you are gay and like to dance, this is the club for you. Taking over the now defunct Blu space, WETbar is a 21 and over club that offers the hottest DJ and dance action available in Midtown Atlanta. Theme nights are also a big draw.

Fever

Fever is changing the face of the once seedy, run-down Cheshire Bridge road entertainment district. The classy multi-level club features several theme rooms.

Opera

Opera is located in Midtown, where the popular nightclub Eleven50 used to be. Newly renovated and expanded, with so many VIP areas that you could get lost after a few cocktails, Opera is quite a looker of a club. Take note that the clubgoers it attracts are just as beautiful. It is more of a see-and-be-seen place than a dancing destination, but they have scheduled throughout the year nationally-acclaimed DJ's who perform live at the venue.

Aiko

This East Andrews gem puts a hip twist on the Buckhead bar scene. Part sushi bar, part trendy nightclub and martini lounge, Aiko offers a slick decor, live DJ's, and an ambitious sushi menu.
