The 4th of July is on a Monday this year, so enjoy the long weekend with a variety of special events for families and and children in Atlanta!

Atlanta-Area Fireworks Displays

Many towns have celebrations with fireworks and parades, but be sure to check the date - the fireworks are often on July 3rd. Check out DuluthCumming, Alpharetta, Decatur, Marietta, Acworth, Peachtree City, and Dunwoody.

Peachtree Road Race

Cheer on the runners in this Atlanta tradition. 150,000 spectators turn out each year to root for the racers. Check the website for the best places to watch.

Fantastic Fourth Celebration - Stone Mountain Park

Stone Mountain has lots of unique events planned for the 4th, from a ropes course to the new Yogi Bear 4D Adventure. From July 2-4th, you can see a great laser/music/fireworks show on Memorial Lawn. Be sure to check the website for details, because there are some parking restrictions.

USA Today says Stone Mountain's fireworks show is a must-see.

Lenox Square's Legendary 4th

Be part of the largest celebration in the Southeast! Hear live bands, visit the family area, sample food at the Taste of the 4th, and finish the evening with fireworks at 9:40 p.m. The music and fireworks are free, but the Taste of the 4th costs $10 per person.

Centennial Park

The 4th of July celebration at Centennial Park will be packed - a good time to consider Marta. Events start at 2:00 p.m. In addition to live music and food, kids can have fun splashing in the Olympic Rings or enjoying arts and crafts, face painting, performances, inflatables, and stilt walkers. Crystal Bowersox is the headline artist, coming on stage at 8:30 p.m. Fireworks begin at 9:00 p.m. Activities are free, except for parking.

Six Flags

Head to Six Flags for food, fun, and fireworks.

Mall of Georgia

Visit the Southeast's largest mall for the Ninth Annual Fabulous Fourth. Starting at 2:00 p.m., enjoy food, games, rides, inflatables, and music. Visit the Mall of Georgia Beer Garden (open to families). The evening ends with fireworks and a showing of the movie Little Fockers after the fireworks.

Lake Lanier Islands

It's going to be hot on the 4th, so why not head to the waterpark? Hit the waterslides all day and enjoy the fireworks at night. If you come after 3:00, the price is $14.99 per person. After 7:00, the price is $10.00 per car and $10 per person.

Atlantic Station

If you are busy on the 4th, consider the Radio Disney All-American Celebration event at Atlantic Station on July 2. There won't be fireworks, but there will be games, crafts music, prizes, balloons, food, and face painting from 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Tanglewood Farms

The whole month of July highlights "Americana" at the petting zoo in Canton. Celebrate the spirit of our great nation all month long with patriotic pony rides, bluegrass music and a hayride through Tanglewood's all-American Wild West Town. Take a pony ride and see, pet and feed more than 100 miniature farm animals that call Tanglewood their home. The farm will be closed on July 4th, but you can visit Wednesdays-Fridays from 10:00-2:00 and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00-5:00.

INK

The Interactive Neighborhood for Kids in Gainesville has special July 4th crafts for $1 more than admission price on July 5-8.
