Inman Park Festival

By , About.com Guide

The Inman Park Festival is an annual event that takes place each spring in Atlanta. The neighborhood of Inman Park is just a few miles east of downtown and was Atlanta's first streetcar suburb as the city started to grow.

There are many springtime festivals in Atlanta, but if I had to choose just one to attend, the Inman Park Festival is my personal favorite (the Dogwood Festival is also a lovely choice). The Inman Park Festival has everything you want in a large festival, but also retains some quirky charm.

Festival Events:

The two-day festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday and features a large artists market (helpful hint: the festival is a great place to do your Mother's Day shopping!), live music and children's activities. The highlight of each year's festival is the Saturday afternoon parade, which is always full of crazy costumes and creative floats. There is also an opportunity to tour some of the beautiful, historic homes in the area.

The Inman Park Festival is a very family-friendly event, with a Kidzone that hosts games, arts and crafts and inflatable. There are always a lot of families lounging in the sun out in the large grassy park at Hurt and Euclid. Kids will be entertained by the funny parade spectacle and for the most part, the streets lined with booths are wide enough for strollers.

2012 Inman Park Festival Information:

The 2012 Inman Park Festival will take place on April 27 - 29, 2012. Hours are Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Saturday's parade will start at 2 p.m. and run down Edgewood Avenue and up Hurt Street to Euclid Avenue.

No pets are allowed in the festival area.

The festival is easily accessible by Marta, just hop off at the Inman Park/Reynoldstown station and you'll be right in the thick of it!

There is always plenty to eat and drink, with food and alcohol available for purchase. You can also check out the great nearby restaurants, which will be open for business.

Inman Park Tour of Homes:

During the festival, you also have the opportunity to tour some of the lovely, historic homes in the Inman Park Neighborhood (yes, you'll be jealous!). There are 11 properties on the Tour of Homes - including a number of houses, a church, The Wrecking Bar and a loft building.

Tour of Homes tickets are $15 in advance or $20 during the festival. Advance tickets may be purchased online or at local businesses including Little 5 Points Pharmacy, Inman Park Pet Works, Java Vino, 17 Steps (Decatur). On-site, you can find tickets on Friday at the main Sales Booth at Elizabeth St. and Euclid Avenue from 12:00 – 4:00pm, or on Saturday and Sunday during Festival hours at the main Sales Booth (Elizabeth St. and Euclid Ave.) and at the Sales Booth near the MARTA Station.
