Atlanta’s Fall Festivals

As Labor Day passes and school buses returning to the roads, signs of fall are everywhere. Soon the leaves will begin to change and everyone will look for opportunities to get outside and enjoy the cooler weather. Here is a roundup of festivals in the Atlanta area taking place in September and October.

Oktoberfest in Helen

Where: Town of Helen, GA
When: September 11 – November 7

Every year the biggest Oktoberfest celebration is just a bit north of Atlanta in Helen, GA. The tranquil town transforms in to an all-out party with dancers in costume, authentic Bavarian food and festivals that last all night. Festival events take place at the Festhalle, where you can dance the night away or enjoy a drink in the Beer Garden. The festival lasts for almost two months!

Old Milton Country Fair

Where:September 13-14
When: Independence High School, 86 School Drive, Alpharetta, GA 30009

This fun festival celebrates old-fashioned pleasures with historic crafts and demonstrations like blacksmithing and soap making. Families can pan for gold and learn about life and culture in the mid-1800s. There will also be barbeque vendors, contests and live music.

North Georgia State Fair

When: September 18-28

This annual event brings all the fair favorites with over 40 rides, games for all ages and other fun attractions. Shows include a dog diving show, an alligator show, bike stunts and local performers. There is also a petting zoo, different concerts every day and a North Georgia State Fair Beauty Pageant.

Sandy Springs Festival

Where:Heritage Green, 6075 Sandy Springs Circle
When:September 20 – 21

Explore the artist’s market, stroll through the collector car show or bid on treasures in the silent auction. There will also be a 10K race and a 5K race, a children’s park, food vendors, a pet parade and live entertainment from local bands.

Pumpkin Festival

When:October 3 – 26 (Fridays & Saturdays)

Ring in the Halloween season with the family-friendly Pumkin Festival at Stone Mountain. October activities include a maze, pumpkin pie eating contests, costume contests and trick or treating at the shops.

Taste of Kennesaw

Where:October 4
When:Jim Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Rd SW, Marietta, GA 30008

Enjoy tastes from local restaurants at this food festival and sample everything from southern cooking to exotic ethnic cuisine. There will also be arts and crafts vendors, a classic car show, raffles and live entertainment.

Smryna Fall Jonquil Festival

Where:200 Village Green Circle, Smyrna, 30080
When:October 25 – 26

Shop for unique crafts from over 150 vendors. There will also be a wide variety of festival foods and a fresh harvest market with pumpkins.
