Stone Mountain Park, located just 16 miles east of downtown Atlanta, is a family-friendly attraction with loads of different activities. For Atlantans it's a great day trip, but the park attracts visitors from around the southeast to stay for the weekend at their on-site hotels or campgrounds.
Stone Mountain offers many activities and outdoor attractions. They also host seasonal events and festivals throughout the year. The park is centered around the actual mountain, a 58-acre piece of granite with a memorial to the Confederate troops carved in it's side.
Park Attractions:
Stone Mountain Park offers about 15 different activities, depending on the season. Year-round highlights include the Summit Skyride, where you can ride a cable car to the top of the mountain, the paddle boats on the lake and the brand new SkyHike, a family ropes course challenge.
There is also a scenic train ride around the park, a 4-D movie adventure and a miniature golf course. In the warmer months of the year, a day at the park comes to an impressive end with the 25th Anniversary Lasershow Spectacular.
The park offers many seasonal events like art shows, chili cook-offs and Halloween activities. They also have one of the area's largest Christmas celebrations, with live shows, a parade, fake snow, a holiday village and over 2 million twinkling lights on display throughout the months of November and December.
