The Chattahoochee Nature Center has fun indoor and outdoor events going on almost every day this month. From guided nature hikes every weekend to animal encounters to earning a Boy Scout badge, the CNC has great opportunities for both kids and adults. Check out the full listing on their site.

“The First Emperor: China’s Terracotta Army,” on display at the High Museum through April 2009, features 100 works, including approximately 15 complete terracotta figures, the exhibition represents one of the largest groups of important works relating to the First Emperor ever to be loaned to the U.S. by the Museum of the Terracotta Army and the Cultural Relics Bureau of Shaanxi Province in Xi’an, China.

January 2 - March 1, Cirque du Soleil presents Kooza, at Atlantic Station. Kooza, full of the usual wonder and acrobatics of Cirque shows, tells the story of a loner in search of his place in the world. Tickets available online.

January 8 – March 22, The Center for Puppetry Arts will present “Weather Rocks,” a family-friendly revue featuring original music explaining the mysteries of weather and monter nature in a fun, educational puppet show.

At Snow Mountain at Stone Mountain Park, enjoy three football fields' worth of deep snow, with a 400-foot tubing hill and a 30,000-square-foot snow play area. Advance reservations recommended. Tickets sold for two-hour sessions. Weekends through March 1.

January 8 – 10

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will perform Brahms’s Violin Concerto in D Major with Grammy Award-winning violinist Gil Shaham January 8-10, 2009, at Symphony Hall.

January 8

Bob Greene, the best-selling author and former personal trainer of Oprah, shares his latest books, "The Best Life Diet" and "The Best Life Diet Cookbook" at a free book signing event at Wal-mart in Acworth. 3826 Cobb Parkway, Acworth. 6:00 p.m.

January 9

Learn to appreciate authentic Argentine tango at Callanwolde Arts Center! All skill levels are welcome and no partner is necessary. The evening begins at 8:00 pm with an introductory lesson from the expert instructors of Tango Rio. After the introductory lesson, try out your new moves with an open tango dance party, beginning at 9:15 pm. $15 Lesson & Party/$10 Party only.

January 10

A king-sized tribute to the King. Head to the Variety Playhouse for the annual birthday tribute to Elvis. Mike Geier’s big band reworks Presley standards, but in their own distinctive style, backed by the lovely ladies of the Dames A'Flame burlesque troop.

January 13

Sample wines from Chile, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Italy, Germany at Villa Christina’s around-the-world tour in a glass. Each participating Vineyard Winery will share up to 5 of their wines, accompanied by gourmet hors d’oeuvres by Villa Christina’s Chef Andreas. The cost is $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Best-selling author Jill Conner Browne presents "American Thighs: The Sweet Potato Queens' Guide to Preserving Your Assets," a book signing event, at Barnes & Noble 7660 Northpoint Parkway, Alpharetta. 7:00 p.m. Free.

Help local girl scouts celebrate the end of their exploration of hunger, homelessness, and poverty in Atlanta while learning about ways you can volunteer in the local community. The Empty Bowls Event is family-friendly, free of cost event and includes a simple meal of soup and bread. Attendees are asked to bring a donation for the Atlanta Food Bank. Experience Bon Appetite, Ya’ll, an exclusive night with celebrity chef Virginia Willis at W Perimeter Hotel. Have a taste of California as Aria welcomes winemaker Ken Freeman for aninventive five-course menu paired with seven wines from Freeman Vineyard & Winery, a family owned and operated vineyard. January 24

Annual College Night at the High Museum of Art features discounted admission for students. This year the theme will celebrate the Chinese New Year with live music by Beatrix*JAR and The Grapetree Collective and of course, the Terracotta Army exhibit available for viewing. There will also be art and music workshops, drawing in the galleries and other unique activities. The event is $8 for college students, $5 for groups of 10 or more or $18 for non-students and will last from 7 p.m. until midnight.

January 26

This month’s Simple Abundance Cooking Class to benefit Atlanta's Table will be “It's All About Bacon” with Chef Ford Fry of JCT Kitchen. The demonstration includes Crispy Braised Bacon "BLT" with apple butter and brioche; Bacon Wrapped Sea Scallop with arugula salad, and Sheep's Milk Ricotta Dumplings with grilled JCT cured bacon, brown butter and crispy sage.
