Guide Review - Ormsby's

Ormsby's has quickly become an Atlanta hot spot and it seems everyone I talk to has an opinion on this new bar and restaurant. Tucked away off of Howell Mill Road in West Midtown, Ormsby's could be called a hidden gem. You'd easily miss it - it has no sign other than a chalk board by the door - but these days the crowds of hip 20-somethings spilling out into the courtyard make it easier to spot.

There is a decent, though not completely unusual, beer list including a variety of craft brews for the discerning drinker. When it comes to the food, my opinion is that it sounds a lot more exciting than it is. They serve revved-up pub food like onion rings with your choice of sauces from options like housemade cheese-wiz or sriracha mayonnaise. There is a large variety of sausages and a hearty selection of sandwiches. While I'm always drawn in by the fun choices like a BLT topped with fried egg, I've yet to sink my teeth into anything that really delivered when it comes to taste.

While I don't find the food to be anything to write home about, I do think Ormsby's has a comfortable environment where a group of friends can spend a few hours over drinks. It gets very crowded, but if you can time it right, there is ample space for large groups to gather, something that can be a challenge in Atlanta's popular bars. If you want to play some of the coveted bar games, I'd recommend heading to Ormsby's on an off night, since the weekends bring the crowds.
