Guide Review - Atlanta Ballet Presents The Nutcracker

The Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker at the Fox is a spectacle of sights and sounds. The beautiful set, elaborate costumes and exquisite dancing make this holiday tradition a must-see for the whole family. For opening weekend only, the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra provides the added dimension of live music. Unfortunately, the live orchestra has only a limited run due to budget constraints.

Although the audience was full of tiny tots--all decked out in their finest holiday attire, they must have been mesmerized by the sights and sounds, for they were quiet when appropriate and responsive at the right moments. Oohs and aahs filled the theater when snow actually fell on the audience!

The Nutcracker is a holiday outing perfect for date night, girls night out, a mother/daughter or daddy/daughter evening or a full family gathering.

Disappointing, Member reviewertoo

Watched Dress Rehearsal last night and was not expecting perfection, but was quite disappointed in the performance. the Atlanta Ballet Dancers are excellent, but the choreography was bland and unexciting. The story line is way off base... there is no mention in the book of the cook chasing a pig as done in the ""party"" scene at Atlanta Ballet. It seems that the cutbacks and lack of corp dancers make this performance at best sketchy, more like a showcase for a few of their good dancers. There is no Land of Sweets, no Candy canes, no Merlitons and very poor development of Drosselmeyer as the ""magician"". I was horrified that it was Clara that killed the Mouse King! Thinking a psychopath Clara as opposed to the Clara we all love who saves the prince by throwing her shoe. Bright Spots... Clara was beautiful and well acted. Enjoyed the redneck tumblers and the Policinelle tumblers. It was great to hear the Orchestra but sadly the cost of tickets will not be worth it. Best to get the cheap seats or go see a local dance studio who will perform the nutcracker at a fraction of the cost.
