Guide Review - Zuma Sushi
For a busy neighborhood, Zuma is often surprisingly quiet, but don't let that scare you away from finding some of the area's best sushi at a reasonable price point.
The staff is friendly, if not over-attentive, and is always ready to answer questions. The atmosphere, though maybe a bit cliché with the high-contrast, red and black decor, provides a hip, urban feel that seems appropriate for a sushi bar. And most importantly, the sushi is good. Very good.
Order the sashimi or sushi and you won't be disappointed with the large cuts of fresh fish that arrive at your table. Prices average between $5 - $7 for two pieces of sushi or three of sashimi, topping out at $12 for the Otoro (belly tuna), which has many fans around the city. The standard array of Chef's Choice combinations are also available.
Even sushi purists who prefer a sashimi-exclusive meal may be tempted by some of the interesting rolls Zuma offers. Aside from the traditional items, there is also a wide variety of Chef's Special Rolls including creations like the Trust Me Roll (spicy tuna, yellow tail, special Zuma hot sauce and wasabi sauce) and the Zuma Roll (BBQ eel, caviar and Alaskan snow crab on a avocado roll).
