Oakhurst is an neighborhood in Decatur, Georgia, located just east of Atlanta and slightly southwest of the Decatur Square. It's a charming neighborhood with an active central square where you will find many restaurants and bars. The area is accessible by the East Lake Marta Station.
Mezcalitos Cantina
Mezcalitos is more than your average TexMex restaurant. Though you'll find some familar favorites, they also offer entrees featuring slow roasted meats, handrolled tamales and more. More than a few have become addicted to their signature green rice, made with a puree of spinach cilantro and poblano. The environment is another selling point, it's dark and intimate with a fun bar, Mexican decor and an array of colorful lanterns. They also have a large patio. My favorite item at Mezcalitos? The sangria, which has a spicy hint of cinnamon.
Matador Cantina
Matador is your typical cheap Mexican restaurant offering all the classic combos alongside a variety of tacos. Go here for a casual atmosphere, snacking on chips and salsa (the complimentary stuff is great but their salsa trio is worth stepping up for), pitchers of margaritas and large plates of your favorite TexMex dishes. With drink specials, trivia nights and a great outdoor patio, Matador is a neighborhood standby.
Mojo Pizza 'n Pub
Mojo serves up gigantic slices and pies - for dining in or delivery - at their Oakhurst outpost. Flavors range from classic to creative and the crust gets a sprinkling of sesame seeds. The outdoor patio overlooking the Square is a popular spot and often overflowing on sunny afternoons. Mojo also serves a limited pasta menu, wings and subs.
Universal Joint
Universal Joint (or U-Joint for short) plays the role of neighborhood bar, a requent gathering spot for Oakhurst residents. A large patio, comforting bar food like burgers, sandwiches and quesadillas and TVs that always have the big game make this the "Cheers" of Oakhurst.
Saba
Saba is an italian restuarant serving up a variety of pastas, ravioli, paninis and Italian inspired entrees. They also throw in some curveballs with international flavors like Thai Chicken Ravioli or Vegan Vindaloo Spaghetti. A popular favorite is the pumpkin ravioli, though I prefer the lasagna. Their starters and salads shine on their own - try the Tomato Rustica, a warm pot of chunky marinara & herbed goat cheese served with toasted bread.
Steinbecks
Steinbecks is a teeny, tiny pub with upscale bar food, a great beer selection and frequent live music. If you're lucky enough to get a table on a busy night, try out their rotating daily specials and order something you've never heard of before on draft.
