Atlanta's Best Mexican Restaurants

By , About.com Guide

Mexican food evokes a feeling of celebration, relaxation, laughter and friends. Always a great place for a celebration, no one can resist the hot, spicy, cheesy foods paired with salty chips and ice cold margaritas. For the purposes of this list, we won't quibble over authenticity, we'll simply provide a list of some of our favorite Mexican, Tex Mex and Southwestern spots in Atlanta.

Nuevo Laredo

Ask most Atlantans for a place to get good Mexican grub and you'll be pointed to only one place: Nuevo Laredo. Somehow, this Mexican food outpost hidden in the industrial district off of Chattahoochee Avenue has become the stuff of Atlanta legends. Classic dishes, great portion sizes, cheap eats and strong margaritas keep people coming back. 1495 Chattahoochee Avenue Atlanta.

Bone Garden

Bone Garden, located off of Ellsworth Industrial not far from the fabled Nuevo Laredo, is a cheerful cantina with a colorful Day of the Dead theme. Home of authentic tacos and free-flowing tequila, there are some creative options, like the tounge taco, for adventurous eaters. A smaller restaurant, Bone Garden is great for an economical meal with a few choice friends. One of the best things on the menu here is the empanadas. Bone Garden is located off of Ellsworth Industrial in the Lumber Yard complex.

Taqueria del Sol

Another casual taqueria, Taqueria del Sol, has several Atlanta locations serving up fun tacos, a la carte style. They also have yummy sides, enchiladas and rotating, authentic specials. Don't forget to try the chunky, homemade guacamole. Taqueria del Sol has three Atlanta locations

Tin Lizzy's

Tin Lizzy's, with locations in Buckhead and Grant Park, has a casual, beachside vibe (minus the beach, of course), serving super-sized nachos and buckets of chips alongside taco plates with classic favorites and new creations. Tin Lizzy's has two locations, Buckhead and Grant Park (with a great rooftop patio!).

Twisted Taco

Twisted Taco has recently expanded, with five locations around the metro area. With a texas style flair and Tex-Mex food with big flavors to match, Twisted Taco has a party atmosphere. Try new variations on Mexican infused with greek, thai and American flavors like buffalo chicken. Visit Twisted Taco online for locations and hours.
