Atlanta's Romantic Restaurants

By , About.com Guide

Atlanta is home to some of the most fabulous restaurants in the South, and any number of them would make for an impressive date night. To help narrow the field, we've selected a few of our favorite spots for starting a spark or celebrating lasting love.

Canoe

Overlooking a tranquil garden setting on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, Canoe draws even the most dedicated city-dwellers to charming Vinings for big flavors in a relaxed atmosphere. The dining room may have the feel of a country lodge, but the food is generous, sophisticated and unforgettable. With a focus on game meats, Canoe's seasonal menu features unique offerings like ostrich and rabbit, as well as classic steak and seafood dishes for the less-adventurous diner. This spot books up quickly for holidays and special occasions, with a reputation for top-notch service, reasonable prices and creating an all-around evening to remember.

Dante's Down the Hatch

A kitchy Atlanta favorite, Dante's Down the Hatch is known for fondue, live jazz and of course, the famous pirate ship. That's right, as you enter Dante's, you'll find yourself greeted with a life-sized pirate ship, surrounded by a moat with live crocodiles. Be sure to request a table on the ship, if you're so inclined. Whichever seat you choose, you'll share a pot of fun fondue with your date. Know before you go: Chocolate fondue must be requested in advance, so alert the restaurant when you make your reservation.

Ecco

Located in Midtown in the neighborhood of the Fox Theatre (dinner and a show, anyone?), Ecco has a fantastic wine list, impressive service and can't-be-missed dishes like fried goat cheese drizzled in honey. Whether you're opting for casual wood-fire pizzas or tender homemade pastas, you'll enjoy an atmosphere that is sophisticated and anything but uptight. Though the menu is European influenced, the vibe is wine country chic, with an open dining room and a large, inviting bar.

Sotto Sotto

Traditional trattoria dining means an intimate setting flooded with romantic candlelight. Consistently heralded as some of Atlanta's top Italian cuisine, Sotto Sotto serves up classic dishes in the hip Inman Park neighborhood. Transport yourself to Italy without leaving downtown as you linger over a multi-course feast from anti-pasta to dessert and sip on jazzed up martinis or a glass of wine from Sotto Sotto's extensive list.

Sugo

When it comes to Italian in Atlanta's suburbs, no place beats Sugo, with a large menu of favorites and a friendly, family-run environment. Sugo has three locations, Historic Roswell, North Roswell and Duluth. The Clocktower Place location in Historic Roswell is the most intimate and romantic setting, but all the locations serve the same hearty food, made with love from a family that blends Italian and Greek influences. At Sugo, you'll feel like you're a part of the Castellucci family as you savor the flavors of the Mediterranean.

Two Urban Licks

If you're looking to impress a date with a big city feel, head to Two Urban Licks. Tucked away in a warehouse district, the hot spot features the drama of a 14-foot wood-pit rotisserie tower in the center of the dining room. The high-energy atmosphere and slick, modern decor make Two Urban Licks a showstopper of a restaurant; The contemporary take on American cuisine, with items like the famous lamb lollipops and classic grilled meats, keeps everyone coming back for more.
