The book features 12 "round winning" stories, a wildcard round story, three book only stories, 2 Guest Chapters, and appropriately enough, "The Final Story." (Never fear, Joe the Peacock fans, he is already hard at work on a second book.) Each entry comes with a bit of a backstory or comment.
Some of my favorite stories include "The Wal-Mart Story", "Late Night Adventures at Kroger", "The Cows...They Talk!", "I Think I'm Turning Japanese", and "I've Never Really Been a Fan of Fish". Many of the stories take place in metro Atlanta. Joe the Peacock is pretty much your average guy, who runs into some pretty interesting situations, and has the knack for writing about them in a witty but authentic manner. Peacock rolls out tales like you'd expect to hear at your neighborhood bar over a couple of cold ones. His writing can invoke empathy and guffaws all in the same sentence.
Certainly, Peacock's writing and sense of humor is not for everyone. If casual profanity and sexual scenarios make you uncomfortable, then this book wasn't meant for you. Some might find the writing a bit sophomoric, but that is part of the charm. Not everything has to be Shakespeare in order to be brilliant. "Mentally Incontinent" is a hillarious
